Lincolnshire Police has leapt up the performance rankings after reporting a 14 per cent drop in crime in the past year.

The county’s police are now ranked 14 out of 43 forces, compared to 21st last year, thanks to efforts in reducing a variety of crimes, including anti-social behaviour and violent crime.

The figures will be unveiled by county Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Hardwick today in his quarterly force performance update.

It means that between April 2012 and March 2013 there were 6,250 fewer crimes than in the previous year.

Mr Hardwick said: “Recorded crime continues to decrease and the overall detection of crime is up.

“However, I will continue to push for improvements in detecting and solving crime and in levels of victim
satisfaction.

“I will maintain my pledge to ensure that we get the best value for money from every pound spent.”

Mr Hardwick highlighted the force’s “significant” successes in bringing down thefts of motor vehicles and anti-social behaviour.

Serious sexual offences are also down by 12.3 per cent, meaning 60 fewer crimes.

Mr Hardwick said: “This is an area that the force has focussed on through the No Means No campaign.”

Violent crimes are down 7.5 per cent – 567 fewer crimes – and home burglaries down by 4.3 per cent, 94 fewer.

Theft of motor vehicles are down by 19.2 per cent (150 fewer crimes) and theft from motor vehicles down 3.7 per cent (104).

Anti-social behaviour, which is one of the major concerns in South Holland, has also fallen, with a 25.1 per cent drecrease in criminal damage, incidents that cause fear or concern down by 16.5 per cent and other antisocial behaviour down 15.9 per cent.

Latest data shows that more than 83 per cent of victims of burglary and vehicle and violent crime are satisfied with their experience of the police, with a national survey showing 70.3 per cent of people questioned having confidence in the police.
