A young man caught with cannabis is in trouble with his partner who says he has a choice – drugs or her.

Police stopped Gary Roberts when he was riding his moped in Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge, on June 3 and found a small amount of cannabis resin in his tobacco pouch.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, told Spalding magistrates the officer recognised Roberts because he had been cautioned for cannabis use previously.

Solicitor Mike Alexander, mitigating, said Roberts uses the drug irregularly and for recreational purposes only.

Mr Alexander told the court: “His partner has said she is very disappointed with him and he should know better.

“She says ‘he has got an option, he can continue taking drugs or he can not see me any further’.

“This is a young man, I suspect, will learn his lesson very quickly, and I suspect will not come back to court.”

He said Roberts is employed and has a strong work ethic.

Roberts, of Princes Street, Sutton Bridge, was fined £235 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £24 victim surcharge when he pleaded guilty to possessing the class B controlled drug.

Presiding magistrate John Reynolds told Roberts his previous caution was an “aggravating feature”.
