Spalding Grammar’s top A-level student Kate Halgarth beat all the odds to get three A*s and an A.
Kate (18) was diagnosed with Dyslexia when she was 13 and a health professional said she would never be able to do A-levels.
On Thursday she beamed with excitement and amazement after opening an envelope listing A*s in business studies, sociology and general studies and an A in ethics and philosophy.
Kate said: “I can’t believe it because I am dyslexic and I was told I would never be able to do my A-levels or anything – and to be the top student is just surreal.”
Kate is heading off to Nottingham Trent to study fashion management.
She says: “I don’t know what I will do ... become a fashion buyer, probably.”
The former Spalding High School pupil lived for a spell with her mum, Sarah, in America.
There were no places there when she came home to Spalding so she switched to the grammar school for A-levels.
Kate found out she had secured her university place by logging on to the UCAS website while still in bed on Thursday morning and picked up her grades at 9am.
“My mum’s in America, I rang her, she was just so pleased,” said Kate. Also thrilled are her dad Henry, who lives in Spalding, and brother James (20).
