A binge drinker was more than three times the drink-drive limit when he took a car without the owner’s consent and damaged another car.
Vidmantas Valancauskas (33) pleaded guilty to driving with 112 microgrammes of alcohol in breath, aggravated taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
Spalding magistrates on Thursday sentenced him to 200 hours unpaid work and banned him from driving for 24 months.
Valancauskas, of Juniper Crescent, Spalding, can cut six months off the ban if he completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
He must pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
Probation officer Chris Payne told the court: “He tells me that he had been binge drinking for two days and, while the balance of his mind was disturbed by alcohol, he made what he calls a foolish decision to take the car to drive to the shops which were only a matter of a couple of hundred yards away.”
The offences happened on Queens Road, Spalding, on July 27.
