A derelict pub in Donington is the subject of a special meeting following concerns about the building’s safety.

The meeting of “partner agencies” to discuss the Red Cow has been organised for today (Thursday) with South Holland District Council to discuss the way forward.

Coun Jane King said: “Police are concerned about people getting into the building via the windows and falling through what remains of the floors and having a nasty accident.

“From a village point of view it is awful and gives a very bad impression of Donington.

“We had high hopes of the new owner sorting but again wonderful ideas that come to nothing.”

The pub in High Street was bought in 2009 for £122,500 by retired businessman Kevin Power, of Hertfordshire, at an auction in London.

The historic building had been closed for more than seven years, but its new owner called on villagers to help decide its future.

He said: “I’m totally open to ideas.”

Debbie Hood, partner at Corner House in the Market Place, said: “It brings the look of the village down. I hope something is done about it soon.”

* South Holland District Council is to consider a plan to convert another High Street pub - the former Black Swan pub in Donington into a showroom.
The plan, to be decided by October, is for the extension of existing workshop buildings in the High Street property, the construction of wood storage building, alteration to existing access and construction of new parking and turning area.
This includes the provision of an acoustic fence and the change of use of ground floor.
Applicant is George Barnsdale and Sons.
