CHARITABLE pupils at the Sir John Gleed School helped serve up a treat as they raised awareness of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Year seven students at the girls’ campus designed and made fruit smoothies.
Sainsbury’s and Bourne Prepared Produce donated ingredients to the school.
Food technology teacher Sue Rees said: “The Fairtrade scheme helps pupils to learn the Olympic and Paralympic values with which the school abides by: courage, determination and friendship.”
Millie Gent was judged to have produced the best smoothie.
Not to be outdone, a group from the boys’ campus have been running a Fairtrade tuck shop, selling chocolate and fruit salad to raise money for Fairtrade farmers.
Univeg and Co-Op donated produce for the students to sell.
Organiser Jayne Ditchburn said: “As a healthy school we like the keep awareness of Fairtrade high and we now have a committee to organise events like this.
“We are hoping to become a Fairtrade school and we are nearly there.
“The Co-Op are always very supportive and what they do is very good.”
The shop raised more than £250 over the week.
