Spalding’s new £2million crematorium is on schedule to open within the next couple of months.
Work is nearing completion on the site just off the A151 link road north of Surfleet ready for the first services which are expected before Christmas.
South Lincolnshire Crematorium is the project of local businessmen Andy Bowser and Andrew Butt and has been built by local contractors D Brown (Building Contractors) Ltd, of Moulton. It will be run on a day-to-day basis by Lincolnshire Co-operative.
Features will include:
l a ten acre parkland setting with landdscaped memorial gardens;
l an 80-seater chapel with covered flower court;
l a 2.5 acre wild flower meadow, providing an area of bioversity;
l the latest environmentally audited equipment, with fully filtered emissions;
l one hour service times – many creamtoriums offer just 30 minutes
l capacity for up to five services a day;
l a cremator which can take larger 44inch coffins.
Mr Bowser said: “We are making good progress on the site and are planning a private blessing service before we open.
“There could also be plans for a public open day next spring.”
