A masonry business in Crowland is building up nicely, with the help of South Holland District Council.
Despite the current economy, Dale Harrison took the step of forming Lincolnshire Masonry Ltd earlier this year.
The business specialises in masonry, conservation and new-build, and has a maintenance contract for Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens in Spalding.
Dale moved much of the business from his Deeping St Nicholas home into a district council-owned unit at Horseshoe Yard Industrial Estate. The unit matched what he wanted for size and budget – and the council’s competitive and flexible terms for new businesses was a big help.
Dale (36) is director and the only employee of the firm, which has eight permanent sub-contractors.
Horseshoe Yard, which has ten units, is also home to JK Sheds – the firm run by Dale’s uncle, John Kilby.
It is one of four mini-factory units which the district council operate. Others are in Benner Road, Pinchbeck; Railway Lane, Sutton Bridge; and Fleet Road, Holbeach.
All units are about 600sq ft (60sq m) and rents vary from £2,600 to £3,450 per year. The tenancy of a unit is renewable every three years and the rent is fixed for that period.
