Holbeach is to get some “much-needed affordable housing” on a vacant industrial site.
The plan for the former Lefteys Garage includes 55 residential units, including the conversion of the Station House into four dwellings.
Eighteen of them have been designated as affordable dwellings.
Disposal of surface water on the site had been a consideration but councillors at Wednesday’s planning meeting at South Holland District Council heard Anglian Water proposed to connect drainage to the old “town tunnel” via an area of open public space associated with Oxford Gardens, which the applicant intends to buy.
Coun Rita Rudkin said there was concern about a large development in the “heart of the town”.
She said: “Holbeach is in need of commercial regeneration. This development will tidy up the area but residents still remember it as a functioning station with amass with businesses. But nostalgia gets us nowhere.”
Coun Roger Gambba-Jones said his concern was refuse management, but Coun Christine Lawton said the plan provided “much-needed affordable homes”.
Coun Peter Coupland said: “I think this is a cracking development. We need to get things moving.”
