There’s a free, confidential health service in South Holland that few people have heard about ... and it can be available at a cafe of your choice.
Health trainers Theresa Lewis and Chloe Stevenson help people take simple steps to tackle problems that stand in the way of a healthier lifestyle.
They have time to support you as you take those first few steps and that can include shopping with you a couple of times, if you want help reading labels to buy healthier foods, or even going with you on a couple of trips to the gym.
Theresa and Chloe offer people up to six one-hour appointments to help with things like healthy eating, becoming more active, managing weight, stopping or cutting down smoking, reducing alcohol intake or building confidence.
Chloe (30) said: “We can meet people at cafes – people have a choice where they meet us – and some come to us at the council offices.”
Theresa (59) runs regular sessions at places like The Curlew Centre, Sutton Bridge, Long Sutton’s Peele Leisure Centre and Holbeach Health Clinic.
Theresa says some people may have lost their confidence about going to the gym and the companionship on the first couple of visits is aimed at giving people greater independence.
She said: “We don’t build dependency.”
