A woman was “screaming in pain” when her ex-husband headbutted her in the face at the house they continued to share.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, said Heidi Chappell and her ex-husband, Christopher, had been split up for about six months and, according to Mrs Chappell, “didn’t communicate or speak together because it always ends up in an argument”.

On November 2, he confronted her at their home in Main Road, Gedney, saying he’d heard a rumour she was trying to get him out of the house.

She said he suddenly headbutted her in the face, hitting the top of her nose and her eye.

“I was screaming in pain,” she told police. “I was shocked about what happened.”

Chappell then bent her over a kitchen surface.

Chappell (49), now of Farriers Court, Leverington, near Wisbech, admitted assault and will be sentenced at Grantham Magistrates’ Court on December 13.

Solicitor Daven Naghen, mitigating, said there had been considerable strain in the relationship for some time.

He said: “He doesn’t want to try to reconcile. He wants to put this chapter behind him.”
