Lucy the lurcher was such “a star” when she appeared on a TV chat show there are hopes she may have found her forever home.
The nine-year-old, who has spent the past five years at the Jerry Green Rescue Centre in Algarkirk, appeared on Channel 4’s Paul O’Grady Live teatime show on Monday.
She was one of a number of dogs in need of a home that were put in the spotlight among celebrities such as pop singer Gabrielle.
In spite of the host being rushed to hospital after suffering an angina attack and being replaced by singer Michael Ball, Lucy “took it all in her stride”.
Jo Hickson, who runs the rescue centre, said: “Lucy was a real star on the show and really deserves to find a home.
“We are in the early stages of talks with someone living in a supported retirement village in Surrey, which would be ideal for her.
“She has been rehomed before but unfortunately she couldn’t cope with the lifestyle of her new owners because she hates being left alone.
“If this works out for her we would certainly go the extra mile to make sure she is happy.”
The rescue centre took Lucy in after she had been running wild around Gosberton for three months in winter because residents had been unable to catch her.
After the show, Lucy spent a few days resting at another Jerry Green centre at Broughton, near Scunthorpe. Jo said: “It was a long day for her with busy traffic, meeting strangers and other dogs.
“But she enjoyed all the fuss and was on her best behaviour on TV. We were really proud of her.”
