A 26-YEAR-old man was arrested in Spalding on Wednesday night after calling the police and claiming he was going to shoot his neighbour.

Police cordoned off Chestnut Avenue for two-and-a-half hours while they searched his premises for a weapon and spoke to residents in the area.

One of the residents told the Spalding Guardian: “My sister was picking her children up around 9pm and couldn’t get through.

“She said there were five police cars, a van and two unmarked cars and she was told someone in one of the houses was armed.”

The police confirmed they were called to the avenue at 7.40pm after the man rang police and said he “would harm and shoot his neighbour”.

However, after a search of his home, no firearms were found.

A police spokesman said: “No-one was hurt and no firearms were found. The man was arrested and is still in police custody.”
