A flood alert has been re-issued this evening for areas of South Lincolnshire near The Wash and Tidal Estuaries
Although not as serious as a severe flood warning or normal flood warning, an alert is issued to warn people to be prepared when flooding is possible. The areas where people need to be on guard include near the Wash frontage from Gibraltar Point to Admiralty Point and the tidal River Witham, the tidal River Welland and the tidal River Nene.
That area includes Holbeach St Marks and St Matthew, Gedney Marsh, Gedney Drove End and Dawsmere, Guy’s Head, Lutton and Long Sutton,
The Envirionment Agency currently has nine warnings and 18 alerts in place in the east of England and a spokesman said tonight: “This flood alert will remain in force as a precaution after the record tide of December 5. The worst damage to defences has been repaired but there is further work to do.
“Low lying land will remain at risk of tidal flooding at a lower level than normal until remaining repairs are complete. This alert will be reviewed and updated as appropriate.”
Areas deemed at no risk include Spalding, Boston, Sutton Bridge, Holbeach, Fleet, Gedney, Surfleet Seas End, Fosdyke and Moulton Common.
