Some of Spalding’s cancer patients will have chemotherapy closer to home thanks to a mobile unit that will visit the town from May.
The mobile chemotherapy unit, costing £260,000 to build and maintain for three years, is being supplied with two support vehicles by the cancer charity, Hope for Tomorrow.
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust say it will treat ten-12 “low risk patients” during its day at Spalding, although patients will have a choice on whether to continue hospital treatment at Boston or Lincoln.
The trust will run the unit and provide additional funds for nursing staff and running costs.
Trust clinical director Dr Kandeepan Saravanmuttu said: “Securing a mobile chemotherapy unit is great news for cancer patients in Lincolnshire. It will allow us to extend our chemotherapy service across the county and significantly reduce the amount of travel time for some patients.”
