News of Candice Pellett’s OBE came at the perfect time for her.

She says: “I lost my dad a year ago this Christmas and I got this on what would have been my dad’s birthday.

“That makes it extra special.

“It was a complete shock. It’s very humbling.”

Candice, who lives next door to her mum Jean Allen, spends her days in uniform as a community nurse seeing patients in the Bourne area.

However, she combines that with teaching, publishing clinical papers and articles, speaking at national conferences, acting as clinical advisor for TV companies, as well as sitting on a number of national nursing groups.

She says: “I just fit it all in. I do my clinical work during the day and my national work and writing in the evening.”

Candice and husband Mike have two grown up children, Sarah Pellett, a veterinary surgeon, and Matthew Pellett, who edits a computer games magazine.
