UPDATE FRIDAY 1.30PM: A shop in Long Sutton has reopened after raiders tried to steal a cash machine there earlier today.

Raiders targeted the Co-op in West Street, damaging shutters before trying to rip out the cash machine using cutting equipment.

The shop was closed for six hours while scenes of crime officers examined evidence, including the cash machine, but a Lincolnshire Co-operative spokesman confirmed that the shop reopened at 1pm.

The spokesman said: “We closed the store to allow the police to continue with their enquiries and then reopened as soon as was possible.

“We are hoping to help the police further and we would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”

FRIDAY 11AM: Raiders tried to steal a cash machine from a shop in Long Sutton today - the second attack there in just over a month.

A gang used cutting equipment to attack the cash machine at Co-op in West Street just before 3am, damaging the shop’s shutters.

Neighbours living nearby called police and the cash machine is now being examined by scenes of crime officers for evidence.

In December, intruders smashed through the front shutters to get inside the shop but nothing was stolen.

Anyone with information should call DC Zoe Arnold on 101, stating incident 15 of January 31.

You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
