The chairman of governors at Bourne Academy has been picked for a national role to support fellow chairmen in improving their schools’ performance.

Roger Moore was one of 100 governors appointed National Leader of Governance by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

National leaders are chairmen of governors who can support their counterparts who are new, want to improve the school or need support with challenges such as gaining federation or academy status.

Headteacher Laurence Reilly said Mr Moore would be able to use his “sound professional judgement and outstanding interpersonal skills” to help other chairmen.

National College for Teaching and Leadership chief executive Charlie Taylor said: “High quality governance is vital for improving schools.

“It’s great that chairmen of governors like Roger are willing to step up and look beyond their own school to help others who will benefit from their support.”
