Actor, comedian, writer: Miles Jupp was known as all of these... until he came to Spalding on Saturday.

Since then, he’s been hailed as a bit of a hero after stepping in with an offer of transport to a member of the audience injured during the interval.

Miles – known to some as Archie the Inventor in Balamory, as well as appearing in TV shows such as Have I Got News For You – was in Spalding’s South Holland Centre to perform his stand up act, Miles Jupp is the Chap you are Thinking Of.

During the interval a man apparently fell, injuring his face. A paramedic called to the centre to tend to the man advised a trip to Pilgrim Hospital at Boston to be checked out.

Centre manager Sally Harrison said: “When the show was over, the man and the paramedic were still waiting for the ambulance transport, so Miles offered to take our injured customer to Pilgrim himself. What a nice chap.

“The staff here were full of praise for Miles Jupp when I arrived this morning.”

Front of house staff Niki Hawley, who said Miles also gave the man a book and signed poster, added: “When he heard the man was still here because they were waiting for an available ambulance to take him to hospital for stitches and an x-ray, Miles offered to drive him there. The paramedic said this was ok so the injured man and his wife left with Miles and his stage manager to be driven to Boston Pilgrim – 25 miles out their way back to London. Who says chivalry is dead?”
