Lincolnshire Police is joining three other East Midlands forces to provide regional specialist services including search teams, armed response units, dog sections and roads policing.

The new system goes live on March 31, but Lincolnshire Chief Constable Neil Rhodes says the public will “not notice any discernible difference in the service they receive from their police force”.

Mr Rhodes said: “Our local response teams will always be first on the scene of an incident or crime.

“What we are doing is creating a pool of expertise and specialist skills for each of our forces to call upon when dealing with crime in our communities.”

The single, streamlined command structure will produce cash savings for all four forces – although the amount has not been revealed.

Mr Rhodes said: “A single command structure will mean that we have a clear view of policing needs and priorities right across the region, rather than four different assessments that only extend as far as our county borders.”

The other forces involved are Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.

The four police forces already collaborate in areas such as organised crime and murders.
