THE Crown Prosecution Service has dropped two offensive weapon charges against a Whaplode pensioner who was accused of having a hammer and a piece of wood with a nail sticking out in a public place.

David Billows (72), of Middle Road, denied both charges when he appeared in court on February 16.

Prosecutor Rebecca Ritson told Spalding magistrates on Thursday the two charges are to be discontinued.

Billows has also pleaded not guilty using threating or abusive behaviour towards Keiran Storton at Whaplode on February 1 this year and obstructing or resisting a police officer on the same date.

Magistrates adjourned those charges to June 21 for a trial.

Billows had his unconditional bail extended.
