The NFU has called on the Government to review its flooding and coastal defence policies.
The call was part of the farming organisation’s flooding manifesto, released on Wednesday at its annual conference. The document also asks the Government to commit more money to helping to reduce further risks to the British countryside.
The NFU believes that valuable farmland and rural communities are too often being sacrificed as the lowest priority in managing the nation’s floods.
It says that continued unmanaged and uncompensated flooding removes farmers’ ability to earn a sustainable living.
