WORK could start to build a new crematorium in Surfleet later this year.
Detailed technical plans are now being drawn up after South Lincolnshire Crematorium Ltd got the go-ahead for the single-storey chapel, car parking, memorial garden and wildflower meadow from South Holland District Council last month.
Andrew Bowser, of the company, said: “Support from the councillors was unanimous, which we were pleased about, and we are now working hard on the details.
“The landscaping work, such as planting, on the site could begin in the autumn and we are hoping to start building the crematorium at the end of the year or at the very start of 2013.
“It’s hard to give an exact date, but the new facility will be open next year.”
