IT’S “all systems go” at University Academy Holbeach after a green light was given to its major expansion.

It is now hoped building work could start as early as next month to create 24 new general classrooms, a two-floor learning resource centre and four additional ICT suites.

The total revamp, which involves demolishing parts and replacing with new buildings, will also mean the school can increase its annual intake from 150 to 180 students and will include new specialist subject rooms for food technology, textiles, graphics and language.

A new four-court sports hall and associated car parking will also be available for community use.

Headteacher Steve Baragwanath said: “We’ve had notification that the plans have gone through so we are absolutely delighted and are now moving on to the next stage of the process with a view to building work starting in the near future.

“It’s all systems go from here on and we are still hoping the work will be completed in time for the new intake in September 2013.”

In the meantime the school is hoping it will be able to start using its newest building within the next couple of weeks.

The building was gifted to the academy by sponsors Lincoln University for just £1.

It is now being fitted with air conditioning and data cabling ready for use by office staff.
