WORKMEN are putting in extra hours at weekends to finish roadworks which started at the end of February.
The drainage work in Fleet Street, Holbeach, was delayed for a Health and Safety Executive investigation to be carried out after a trench collapsed on a workman just over a week into the five-week programme.
The workman had to be airlifted to hospital with a suspected broken leg.
The accident also led to fears about the stability of the road’s foundations, resulting in it being closed for almost three weeks.
But a Lincolnshire County Council spokesman said: “The work is progressing well and we expect it to be complete within three weeks, possibly even sooner if we get a period of reasonable weather.
“Our contractor has been working Saturdays and some Sundays to help reduce inconvenience to some of the business premises.”
