MORE than 100 vintage cars were driven along the A17 from Sutton Bridge to Sutterton on Friday on day one of The 4th Flying Scotsman 2012.
The oldest car in the competition – a 1912 Chalmers 10 – finished first in its class on the tour from the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, to St Andrew’s, Scotland.
But the Chalmers, entered by Robert Abrey and Brad Webb, was one of only two pre-1920 cars in the rally.
Top three finishers for the pre-1941 cars were: an Alfa Romeo 6C (Alastair Caldwell/Catriona Rings), a Talbot 105 Alpine (Gareth Burnett/Jeremy Haylock) and a Bentley (Paul Carter/John Bayliss).
Many of the cars were open top and driving teams had a real soaking as they passed through South Holland.
