Pilgrim under fire over A&E

A FAMILY slammed accident and emergency at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital after a six-month-old baby with breathing problems waited eight hours to see a doctor.

Noah Donnelly-Coles was taken to A&E at 11am on Friday by his mum and dad, Jenny and Steven, from Moulton Seas End, because he was poorly with bronchiolitis.

Noah saw a triage nurse two hours later but had to wait until 7pm to be admitted to the children’s ward, where he stayed overnight and had nebuliser treatment.

Noah’s nan, Kathleen Donnelly, said: “He was eventually seen at 7pm or 7.15pm by two paediatricians on the children’s ward who said there were two paediatricians in A&E and then, to make matters worse, they were basically told he had been forgotten.”

Mrs Donnelly, from Fleet, dashed to the hospital at 4pm on Friday with extra nappies and food because the couple ran out during their long wait.

Jenny could not fault the treatment on the children’s ward but said next time she will “definitely go the extra few miles to King’s Lynn”.

United Lincolnshire NHS Trust refused to comment on Noah’s case.

But spokesman Becky Derbyshire said: “We have processes in place within each of our departments to try to ensure that patients get seen by the correct health professional in a timely manner. However, during busy periods it has been drawn to our attention that occasionally patients have to wait for a longer period to see a medical professional in our A&E departments.”
