MURALS celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 London Olympics have sprung up thanks to the artistic work of school pupils.
The group of 13 Btec art and design students from Peele Community College, Long Sutton, spent two days creating the works of art after being commissioned by the town’s In Bloom committee.
As well as a formal image of the Queen, similar to the one seen on bank notes, the jubilee mural included images of Buckingham Palace and the Royal Guard and a picture of Her Majesty as she is now.
The second mural conveyed the multi-cultural aspect of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Unfortunately the jubilee mural was defaced within days of going up at the Curlew Centre, Sutton Bridge.
But the college’s head of art Mark Reynolds said: “Fortunately someone either had a prick of conscience, or a member of the public took it on themselves to clean it up, because you can hardly tell now.
“Either way I really appreciate it.”
