OUTSTANDING students at Thomas Cowley High School in Donington were rewarded for their hard work at an awards evening.
Year seven and eight students were recognised for achievement, progress and effort throughout the school year at the event hosted by headteacher Martyn Taylor.
But the actual prizewinners were left in suspense right up until their names were announced as staff had kept their identities secret before the event.
Alex Wheaton, from year seven, took six awards, including linguist, musician and artist of the year prizes, while four awards went to Jessica Tolson from year eight.
Both youngsters took the Outstanding Student award for their respective year.
Deputy headteacher Ian Dawson said: “Each presentation started with a short speech about the worthy winner of their award before the student’s photograph was then revealed to all on the big screen.
“There were a lot of proud students and parents in the school hall and rightly so.
“The students were a credit to themselves, their families and the school.”
