Young women in Lincolnshire are being urged to get a potentially life-saving anti cancer jab.

The HPV vaccine protects against two kinds of papilloma virus that cause 70 per cent of cervical cancers.

Young women aged 14-22 need to have three HPV injections to be protected.

Injections are available from GP surgeries and girls can complete their courses with their own doctors.

NHS Lincolnshire nurse consultant Janine Rayfield, who works in public protection, said: “We are working closely with GP surgeries as part of a catch up programme to ensure that females who have not completed the course can still get vaccinated.”

The vaccine does not protect against all cancer-causing viruses so women are still advised to have smear tests when screening starts at the age of 25.
