UPDATE Thursday, 5pm: Police are looking into whether there is a link between ram raids on banks in Long Sutton and Wisbech just three minutes apart.
Barclays in Market Place, Long Sutton, was targeted at 2.15am on Thursday by four men who got away with cash. A similar incident happened at HSBC in Wisbech at 2.18am.
8.45am Thursday: Ram raiders used a teleporter vehicle to smash a bank wall and steal the cashpoint machine in the early hours of today.
Police say the raid happened shortly after 2.15am at Barclays Bank in Market Place, Long Sutton.
At least four men wearing balaclavas loaded the cashpoint into the back of a 4x4 and fled.
Police are currently guarding the scene.
The Claas vehicle was left at the bank and police say the men’s getaway vehicle and cashpoint machine are likely to be abandoned in an isolated rural area.
A police spokesman said: “We are appealing to farmers to check their outbuildings and isolated parts of their property and report anything to us as soon as they can.”
The teleporter was stolen from a building site at Sutton St James.
• Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101 or report what they saw anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
