WHAT is probably the biggest tractor to be seen in the Spalding area is now working on farms in the district.

Agriserve Limited, based at Low Fulney, has taken delivery of a new Case IH Quadtrac 600 tractor, to be used on farms owned by parent company J L Farms Limited as well as third party farms.

The tractor will be used on primary and secondary cultivation work as well as “one pass seeding” of oilseed rape where in one pass the combination will subsoil, produce a seedbed, seed the oilseed rape as well as applying both slug pellets and starter fertiliser.

“This tractor will normally operate at 600hp, but has the ability to boost to 670hp when required,” explains Geoff Hayes, who heads up both Agriserve and J L Farms Limited. “Even though it has up to 34 per cent more power than the 500hp Quadtrac it replaces we are expecting to see a 20 per cent fuel saving per hectare.”

The tractor uses the Claas RTK auto steer system, which allows it to operate in the field with the steering being remotely controlled with precision accuracy.
