A man who failed to renew his shotgun certificate has given up his gun because he has no time to shoot – and feels it’s safer with having young children.

Police went to Robert Kelk’s home in Broadgate, Weston Hills, on July 7, magistrates heard.

Kelk (44) admitted possessing a shotgun without a certificate and was fined £100 with £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Solicitor Roger Lowther, mitigating, said reminders went to Kelk’s old address.

Kelk works seven days a week and has no time to shoot.

Mr Lowther said: “He has three small children in the house and he believes it’s safer for everybody if the shotgun isn’t there.”
